ONE WEEK OLD // CHICKENS

After a horrible wet and rainy day yesterday it was nice to see a bit of sunshine today. This morning was lovely- felt the nice autumn winter feel in the air. No wind, not to cold and but crisp autumn atmosphere with yellow leaves everywhere. It's starting to look rather pretty down the farm today but I'm not so keen on the fact that winter is on its way. :(

Still no sign on the third chick- ill just have to accept it is gone. Just can't think what would have happened to it though and why? Never mind, I guess it's all nature and a part of life.

Missing chick

Am totally gutted to find the the little Blake baby chicks which hatched Saturday is gone :( totally utterly vanished and gone ;( I knew I should have taken it out but I just don't know much about chickens yet. I think I've got a long way to go too.

Baby number 3 // chicks

I am so excited to announce that there is another baby chick this morning. Funny as last night, my dad was saying we wouldn't get any more eggs hatching. This morning i went in to feed the chickens to find another cracked egg- bit baffled as I couldn't see anything to start with and thought the chickens had been eating the eggs- then to my surprise I found another little black baby chick :) so exciting.
Had great fun watching it fall over and try to love around with it's siblings. I think it's needed another day before it will be able to run with the other two.

New Arrival // Chickens

so, this is my first official post on Rutland Farm. I kinda wish i had done this earlier in the year as so much has been going on, that i am kinda sad i haven't been recording it. Oh well, i have plenty to be writing about and plenty of pictures to share from over the year//summer so far.

After my awful disater last week, I lost all & ducks to a mystery murder. The funny thing is that they were all with two chickens and two geese, they remained unhurt and fine... logic? i don't know what killed my ducks, i even had an expert come in  yesterday and even he is unsure what it was. The murder mystery is still to be solved.

Anyway, had a better day today. I noticed some on my eggs had hatched and i found a tiny little baby half in the shell in the middle of the pen. So i had to go and pick it up and put it back under the mother. I wasnt sure wather she would have done it her self and did want the other chickens or other rats eating her. So i put her back and she snuggled right up under the mother. CUTE.

I also, found a few teeny tiny bamtam eggs from my approx 3 months old bamtams, they are tiny :)
